A pulled muscle is caused when muscle fibers are torn. When a person is not well prepared to engage himself in doing a strenuous work there is the likelihood of his muscle fibers getting torn thereby resulting in a pulled muscle. The severity of the pulled muscle varies as according to the tears caused within the muscle. Mild injury does not cause severe pain and does not limit the activity where as severe injury can cause acute pain and discomfort thereby may cause even disability coupled with the characteristics of bruising and swelling.

Hamstring injury is the most common of the pulled muscle injuries. There are a good number of remedies for a pulled muscle. Total immobilization should be avoided as it may lead to some sort of stiffness in the muscle. Instead the person should adopt a kind of relaxed immobilization. Resting the pulled muscle is another remedy in the sense that a certain period of time say 1 to 5 days should be taken to rest the affected muscle.

Application of ice to a pulled muscle can reduce the amount of pain and swelling. On the other hand heat should not be applied on the affected muscle as it will aggravate the pain and make things worse for the person. Heat in fact would increase the symptoms. Ice may be placed on the affected muscle for about 20 minutes in an hour and this process can be repeated several times in the day. Instead of keeping the ice directly on the muscle, it can be shielded in a towel or a cloth and be used. If the pain and swelling persist even after 24 hours of this kind of treatment then consult the family physician. Anti inflammatory medicine can assist in alleviating the pain and swelling to a good extent

We are all aware that diet is a key factor in your health levels, but it can often be forgotten especially when you have a busy lifestyle or you dont have time to fully plan out your food for the day.

You can retake control of your fat and calorific intake by making your own lunches for work. Although this seems like a lot of hassle, you can often make batch items like pasta salads, cous cous or potatoe salads which keep well throughout the week and are cheap to make in bulk. Simply make up a batch on sunday and distribute portions into containers for the week.

By making your own food for lunch, you also have a strict quality control over the ingredients that go into each dish – so there is no exscuse for eating badly whilst at work. Make sure you use plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables which will help provide you with a wide array of vitamins and minerals required by the body and organs for maintenance, growth and repair.

Some of my favourite things to make include greek style cous cous salad, with mint, feta cheese, cucumber, tomaotoes and olive oil amongst other things. Its really simple and cheap to make and tastes great!

Also stay hydrated – Not only is water an essential part of the brains make-up, it helps to keep your bodily functions, such as digestion and eye sight working properly. Make sure to keep your fluid levels up and you should be drinking at least 2.5 litres of water a day to keep yourself in check.

Follow a couple of these simple diet and nutrition tips and you will help to improve your health, but also your bank balance too!

HOW TO PREVENT AND CURE ACNE 5 17th, 2010 by admin

ACNE makes ones skin ugly and spoils face appearance. We must make all attempts and take all actions to prevent them. Nipping a problem at bud is a lot easier than controlling!

OILY FACE is first one to attack.
Add a few drops water to teaspoon of sandal powder. Form it to paste, apply all over and allow it to dry.
Mix almond of two spoons wit a spoon of lemon rind to 3 ~ 4 spoons of milk. Make it to paste form.
Another one is fruits! Take tomato or papaya – beat them in a mixer to form a paste.

Take two spoons of green clay add to a few drops of fresh lime juice mix them to a spoon of honey and yogurt / old curd to form a paste.
Take the white portion only of an egg. Add two spoons of kaolin, one spoon of oats, and one spoon of corn flour with adequate rose water to mix to form pasty. Add lavender or juniper berry oil. If time permits can keep up to an hour. All above preparations are to be applied on skin protecting eyes. After drying up, wash and rinse well.

Take cedar and sandal wood oil in equal quantities and mix them well. Apply all over. These oils are the best conditioners for the oily skin. Use suitable carbolic soap or soap nut powder to wash thoroughly and rinse.

All these treatments remove oil from your skin. Hence, you are protected!

EXPOSURE to strong vapors, direct sun rays, winter and chemicals – All cleaning agents (Both Office and Home) and detergents and body soaps carry chemicals of high intensity to gentle chemical re agents which act on to skin from severity to gentle actions. But leaves skin dry and outer surface becomes fragile. Scrubbing adds to very bad effects – so avoid scrubbing.
Any cleaning, agent on reaction with dirt and water volatiles is emanated. Every one wears a mask and protects against inhalation. What about skin. It is exposed! Such volatiles react with skin surface leaving them dry and fragile. So before embarking to such severe exposure, apply coconut or olive oil on skin and take up. Protection will be there to certain extent.
Sun rays contain ultra violet and infra red rays. These rays are capable of penetrating skin and burn it. Skin gets dried up and starts itching and irritating. And so the skin trouble starts.
Winter coolness is enjoyable, but its mist combined with spine chilling wind can erode the skin making it dry and flake. So avoid such exposure before going out to enjoy cool wind.
Strong vapors of cooking oils and gas flame will not spare from attack. Same bad effects as mentioned above. But can be avoided by fitting an exhaust fan or chimney. Please protect your skin by suitable methods to strong exposures

Prevention is better than cure. When you are preventive question of curing do not arise!
